Reel Canada High School Outreach Program

The Reel Canada High School Outreach is a partnership between the Kingston Canadian Film Festival and Reel Canada. A one-day festival featuring 4 to 6 feature films and visiting industry guests (filmmakers and actors) will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School on Friday February 29. The Reel Canada High School Outreach will engage the students in a way that brings about dialogue and debate around our national cinema. On average, Canadian films only receive 2.1% of the domestic box office, which means that very few Canadians are actually seeing Canadian films. Teenagers are bombarded by America popular culture; we believe this program will help the students make active decisions about what cultural products they choose to consume and we hope, they will be more inclined to sample independent and non-mainstream art of all forms.
