Media Release: March 8, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE KINGSTON CANADIAN FILM FESTIVAL WRAPS TENTH ANNIVERSARY EVENT Attendance up by 20% at this year’s events Kingston – The Kingston Canadian Film Festival wrapped its tenth anniversary festival with a free screening of Ken Scott’s LES DOIGTS CROCHES. The closing screening concluded a successful event that saw a 20% increase in attendance over last year. The festival began with the sold-out opener COOKING WITH STELLA. John Gerretsen, MPP - Kingston and the Islands, presented the festival with a plaque to commemorate the tenth anniversary and director Dilip Mehta and producer David Hamilton introduced the film. Short film RUBY CAN’T FAIL preceded the feature. It was created by the winners of last year’s ‘10 Years 10 Minutes Award’, which saw KCFF award a promising project with funding and mentorship. RUBY CAN’T FAIL also played at the closing screening, with a Q&A by the filmmakers following. CARRY ON SERGEANT played to a packed house on Saturday March 6 at The Grand Theatre. The silent film presentation was the marquee event of the 10th anniversary celebrations. Pianist William O’Meara accompanied the film with an improvised score that brought the crowd to their feet for a standing ovation as the credits ran. The People Choice Award went to THE TROTSKY, a comedy starring Jay Baruchel as a teenager convinced he is the reincarnation of Leon Trotsky and leads his high school in a revolution.
