This year’s festival will showcase many acclaimed films, including the opening gala film COOKING WITH STELLA. Full information about this year’s event, including the complete feature film schedule, film synopses and ticket information, is available on the festival’s official website www.kingcanfilmfest.com. Presented by The Kingston Whig-Standard and Cogeco, this year’s program includes numerous films from fresh new filmmakers. “It’s exciting to see up and coming young talent in Canadian cinema especially when it’s such a challenging industry. It makes us hopeful for what we can expect to see over the next decade,” says Alison Migneault, Festival Director. This year’s line up includes J’AI TUÉ MA MÈRE, the sensational debut by 20-year-old Xavier Dolan, which swept awards at Cannes, COOKING WITH STELLA, the directorial debut from writer Dilip Mehta, and two features from first-time filmmakers Ryan J. Noth and Geoff Morrison, both recent Queen’s graduates. This year, the line-up also includes retrospective screenings. C.R.A.Z.Y, MY WINNIPEG and ATANARJUAT: THE FAST RUNNER were all chosen from a KCFF survey of film industry insiders, asking for the best Canadian films of the last decade. CARRY ON SERGEANT! is even more retro. This silent film was originally released in 1928 and played at The Grand Theatre. As part of the celebration of KCFF’s 10th year, it will play there again. Full access VIP passes are $80 and include the opening gala film, opening reception, and CARRY ON SEGEANT silent film gala and screening. Passes are on sale now at the Grand Theatre and the Screening Room Movie Theatre.
